Fair Tax Policies Are a Key Priority for Real Estate

Fair Tax Policies Are a Key Priority for Real Estate

EMTAR is part of Tennessee REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). As such, we share NAR’s commitment to champion fair tax policies for private-property owners, buyers and sellers, brokers and agents, and our industry overall.

Fighting for tax fairness is one of many efforts we make in our legislative and regulatory advocacy, whether it’s on the local level in Wilson, Smith, and Dekalb counties; on the state level in Nashville; and nationally in Washington, DC.

NAR’s recent 2025 Legislative Meetings focused heavily on tax reform, with members meeting with the US Congress to advocate for policies that support homeowners and the real estate industry. Key discussions included the impact of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, set to expire at the end of 2025, and the need to protect homeownership and private property rights.

Here are a few more details on the important conversations that took place on this topic:

Tax Reform Discussions:

Podcast Insights:

The Advocacy Scoop podcast featured discussions on tax reform, NAR's advocacy efforts, and the results of a member tax survey.

2025 Legislative Meetings Focus:

The meetings emphasized the need to protect the real estate industry during the upcoming tax reform discussions.

Key Issues:

Discussions included the $250,000/$500,000 capital gains exclusion, the SALT deduction cap, and the potential impact of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expiring.
