Victory in Court
NAR’s Legal Win Against Homie Technology
Legal Outcome & Its Significance
On July 16, 2025, a federal judge ruled in favor of the National Association of REALTORS® and several major brokerages (including Anywhere Real Estate, HomeServices of America, and RE/MAX), dismissing Homie Technology’s lawsuit with prejudice. The court found that Homie’s claims were time-barred under the four‑year statute of limitations and failed to adequately demonstrate that NAR’s rules caused antitrust injury—asserting that independent local agents, not organized policy, accounted for any alleged boycotts.
Strategic Context & Broader Implications
This ruling reinforces the legal principle that antitrust law protects competition, not individual upstarts—especially when market participants may have benefited from the conditions they challenge. With Homie having charged lower commissions and arguably profited from the market landscape it criticized, the court deemed the injury claims implausible. The decision sends a strong message: future challengers need timely action and concrete evidence of systemic harm—not just anecdotal frustrations. At the same time, it signals continued judicial deference to industry governance when supported by procedural compliance.
